Message From Chairman

Society of Deaf Blind Parents”, SDBP was founded in 2005 by a small group of parents (seven parents) during a workshop organized by DDBF and DH-Nepal. The workshop was organized with the objective of recognizing deaf-blind as a separate disability group in Nepal. It also expected to help parents come together and organize themselves as an independent organization working to ensure quality of life for the deaf-blind children. SDBP was registered in 2005 with the District Administration Office in Kathmandu and is also affiliated to the Social Welfare Council (SWC). SDBP is a member of the National Federation of the Disable Nepal (NFDN). Since its establishment in 2004, it has increased its membership from seven to 34. It has also set up an independent secretariat with a part-time staff. It has organized awareness programs in six districts, developed, printed and distributed 1000 copies of brochures both in English and Nepali, developed relation with other organizations working in the disability field, organized meetings with new parents, participated in DB unit parents-teachers meetings, and conducted monthly board meetings with minutes to strengthen the organization. SDBP is a non-profit organization initially set up by the parents of the deafblind children. It has 50 members. Most of them are parents, guardians or close relatives of the deafblind children. It has an executive board of nine members elected every three years. The members meet once a year during the organization's annual general meeting. AGM. The members each pay Rs. 105 a year to become a member of the SDBP and each member has voting rights, but the executive board is selected from the parents or the nearest family member of the deafblind children. The executive board members work on voluntary and rotational basis in its secretariat. SDBP is registered with the District Administration Office in Kathmandu and is also affiliated to the Social Welfare Council (SWC). SDBP is also a member of the National Federation of the Disabled Nepal (NFDN). The organization is founded by the parents/guardians of the deafblind children coming from different parts of the country. At the moment they are from different districts and different works of life. The activities of the project will largely coincide with the local communities from which the parents come and also explore to the new districts for awareness program and to bring in new parents and children in the organization.
